Going Green with Male Fashion in 2022 Top Tips

There has never been a greater emphasis on going green.

Extreme wildfires and droughts have become common around the world, leaving many people wondering about how they can help to make an impact. Or actually, less of an impact on the planet.

Many people have turned their attention to their wardrobes. After all, clothes are an essential for daily life, and the hazards of fast fashion on the environment are known.

Men’s fashion seems to change less frequently than women’s. So, if you are a man looking to make your wardrobe greener, here are some helpful tips you can follow. Helping you to become a green man in 2022!

Mend and repair

Fast fashion has led many people to believe that if clothes become ripped, you simply throw them away. This creates an obvious issue with waste disposal. While also wasting your money!

Of course, if your tops or trousers are torn excessively, this cannot be repaired. For more minor tears and rips, it can be worth breaking out the sewing kit!

Shop thrift stores and green stores

Shopping in thrift stores is trendier than ever. There are limitations to what you can purchase of course, and there may be issues with sizing. Nevertheless, this is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint easily. While also saving you money!

If you need to get some items in for summer, you can also shop at green stores.

Online, many stores will now display their ethos to the environment. Many citing higher quality, ethically sourced fabrics. An example of such a store is burrowsandhare.co.uk. You can also look for shops which offer clothes made from cotton or bamboo. Some can even provide clothing made from hemp. These clothes are often more expensive, but these clothes last longer and are of higher quality.

Look after your clothes

It sounds obvious, but when you buy clothes, you need to look after them.

This can mean buying a range of different fabric detergents. Or maybe even investing in dry cleaning more delicate items. Always hang your clothes out to dry when possible. That way, they are less likely to become damaged through tumble drying.  Also, avoid pre-soaking them in hot water, as this can cause colors to fade. On that note, it can also be worth purchasing some eco-friendly fabric dyes. So, when your clothes begin to fade, you can simply dye them to renew their color!

Wash less

This can be misinterpreted as leading to messy or dirty clothes. However, that is not the goal here! If you have worn a top for one day and it isn’t dirty, put it back in your drawers. Wear it again in a few days. Alternatively, why not hang it dry on the line to air it out?

Green fashion is more than simply buying from sustainable brands. It is also about your actions in the home. By limiting the amount of water you use to wash clothes, you are well on your way to a greener wardrobe.
