Tomorrow is Saturday June 27th and it’s time for another Sydney BarCamp to be held at the Australian Technology Park in Redfern, Sydney.
So what’s a BarCamp?
“BarCamp is an intense community event with discussions, demos and interaction from attendees,” It’s community members say.
“Anyone with something to contribute or with the desire to learn is welcome and invited to participate.”
Usual discussions at the event:
The usual discussions at the event include:
- Comparing startups in San Fransisco to Australia and whether startups should accept funding;
- Coding and hacking;
- The latest internet technology; and
- The most randomness thing you won’t even think will be talked about.
Almost 200 people have registered for the latest Sydney BarCamp, with previous ones seeing more than 100 people show up; sponsors even put in some money for food and drink.
“There’s something for everyone,” said un-organiser Jean-Jacques Halans at the last one.
“The things we talk about here touch on everyone’s life; everyone uses the internet”

Late last week Tech Wired was invited to a….
“…exclusive and interactive media briefing on LG’s new flagship multimedia phone.”

There was a picture included in the invite that we thought looked very familiar. As soon as we got the invite it was thought that LG were launching the suspected new iPhone.
Unfortunately we won’t be in Sydney for the event, but will let you know what happens as soon as we’re given more info.

In just over a weeks time Tech Wired will be attending Australia’s largest telecommunications conference, CommsDay.
The conference is held once every year as a gathering for the major players involved in Australia’s telecommunications industry. From Senator Stephen Conroy representing the Department of Broadband Communications and the Digital Economy, to various Internet Service Provider representatives; the conference will discuss topics such as the National Broadband Network and emerging wireless technologies.
Optus, Internode, Pipe, Vocus, Australia Japan Cable, Basslink, Telarus, BigAir, Kordia, Unwired and others will be among those presenting.
We’re seeking you to leave a comment below as to what questions you would like answered by the big players.
Live coverage of CommsDay 2009 will be provided by Tech Wired throughout the day, so stay tuned.

MICROSOFT’S sweaty Steve Ballmer is in Sydney on the 6th and he wants to empower YOU!

PODCAMP Sydney 2008 – You’ve probably seen the logo, and you’ve been wondering… has it really burnt away from east to west, I say NO!
Podcamp Perth 2007 was apparently a great success, with Podcasters and content producers from around the Nation getting involved.
With just under 24 48 hours to go until Apple unveil their first Australian Apple store, Brent (one of the hosts of Tech Wired Australia) has snapped a shot of it for all to see:

Unfortunately I ‘m unable to go to the opening as I have a little thing called work
So last week I flew down to Sydney to go to the CeBIT Australia 2008 exhibition.
I had a blast, me having a blast:

I found that CeBIT was very much business orientated (more so than I expected) rather than having new innovative technology like you would expect with say CES in the states.
Overall, it was great, met many people, and even went to a Twitter meet up!
