Late last week Tech Wired was invited to a….
“…exclusive and interactive media briefing on LG’s new flagship multimedia phone.”

There was a picture included in the invite that we thought looked very familiar. As soon as we got the invite it was thought that LG were launching the suspected new iPhone.
Unfortunately we won’t be in Sydney for the event, but will let you know what happens as soon as we’re given more info.

Jason Cartwright (over at TechAu) was celebrating Australia Day with a Barbecue by the pool. When it came time to jump in and have a swim, he had forgeten he had the company of an iPhone. Read more

MC DONALDS franchises in Australia look as though they’re going to be following the UK by offering free WiFi to patrons.
Whirlpool forum member someguy11 points out:
“I Work at McDonald’s and we just received flyers and posters for free wifi there. The flyers were shrink-wrapped, and since i found them in the office i didn’t want to open them, but I’m assuming the flyers have a code which you enter into a landing page.”

Yesterday Telstra announced that they will be carrying the iPhone 3G and releasing it on the same day that other Australian iPhone carriers will, of which is July 11.
The catch? They will be offering data, but of a different sort.
Telstra have decided that they will offer free data through their Telstra wireless hotspots.
That’s right, they’re only going to offer data, at this point, through their wireless hotspots.
For those who do not know Telstra very well, Telstra have planted over 1,000 hotspots around Australia’s city areas inside Mc Donald’s, Gloria Jeans and Starbucks and various other locations.
Telstra usually charge for access to this service, but have decided that they will open it up for the iPhone.
After reading through Telstra’s media release and finding no information on wireless data, I called up 1800iphone, Telstra’s quickly snapped up hotline.
After getting through quiet promptly I was read back the same information on their media release with lots of um’s and uh’s from the call center representative regarding any other sort of data included.
From a 2 minute conversation I managed to get from the representative that the iPhone on their network will not include any data pack at this point.
So with Canada already whining about how useless their plans are I think it’s time for us to do the same.
The iPhone is a revolutionary device, and without wireless data via cell phone towers, it is not.

Tech Wired Australia has been delayed this week – so here is a quick update of some WWDC info – Did not mention Apple’s new Mobile Me (me.com) but will in the next audio episode

As rumors suggested, the much anticipated 3G iPhone has been released at Apple’s World Wide Developers conference.
As rumors suggested it is everything that has been speculated about.
It is available in Australia on the following two networks:

All of today’s Apple announcements can be pretty much summarised quickly by browsing over there press release titles for today.

So it’s only hours away (9 hours 8 minutes as of witting this) until Steve Jobs delivers his most talked about yearly speech at the World Wide Developers Conference in San Francisco, Moscone West.
What will be revealed is not know for sure, but the Internet will certainly be at it’s full capacity with blogs everywhere ‘live blogging’ the event.
So where will you be getting your info from ?
Personally, I will be joining up with the Mac Talk Crew, Australia’s #1 dedicated Mac group, where we will be doing a live broadcast feeding the public with info recieved from a couple of people actually at the Keynote.
I will also have my MacBook set up next to my iMac loaded up with Engadget and mac rumors live blogs.
You can also visit http://www.mactalk.com.au/liveblog/ which is where Mac Talk Australia will be live blogging at.
But if you’re into radio style blogging (that’s with audio), you will want to go here @ about 2:45am AEST:
MacTalk’s Live WWDC ‘08 Coverage
So what’s going to come from Steve’s mouth @ the WWDC Keynote? Who knows, but whatever it is, I guarantee it is going to bring geek-a-gazims to geeks accross the Globe.
My set-up for the event:
