Telstra To Upgrade Cable Network To 100Mbps, Melbourne First

Telstra have today announced that they they will be upgrading their existing hybrid fibre broadband network to 100Mbps, starting with Melbourne.
With the network capable of speeds of around 30Mbps already, this upgrade will see a speed increase that is almost 4 times faster.
Stage one of the upgrade will begin in Melbourne and it expected to be complete by Christmas.
Telstra CEO Sol Trujillo said the cable upgrade continues Telstra’s strategy of bringing high-speed broadband to Australians, as the company has done with the Next G network.
“BigPond Cable Extreme transformed the cable network into a high-speed broadband network,” Mr Trujillo said. “Now we are going to the next level: super-fast broadband with download speeds among the highest in the world.”

I always knew Melbourne would get all the first upgrades, while Melbourne has internet speeds of up to 100mbps, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane will still have 30mbps for their metro areas and 17mbps for their country areas, but in Victoria, the full network from City, to suburban, metro and even all country area will have internet speeds of 100mbps,
There are plans to upgrade Victorias full network to 100mbps, and about 1-2 years later, they’ll upgrade Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth from 17mbps to 30mbps, while they said that Sydney may not even receive an upgrade, Sydney city and the metro areas will stay with 30 mbps and NSW country areas will stay with 17mbps.
Telstra is also based in Melbourne and with more customer’s here so that might be why also! and I think it’s because Melbourne is the IT capital of Australia!
