Survey Says: Netspace Customers Say No to ISP Filtering
Australian ISP Netspace have commissioned an internal survey regarding the Australian Government’s plan to filter the Internet.
With almost 10,000 responses between the 2 month period, almost 80% of Netspace customers said that they do not agree with the Federal Government’s policy to make ISP level filtering mandatory for all Australians.

“Upon evaluation of the ISP filtering trial Expression Of Interest, Netspace determined that it contained insufficient detail, unrealistic timeframes and unclear funding arrangements.”
“We considered these barriers to participating in the trial in any meaningful way,” said Matthew Phillips, Netspace’s Regulatory and Carrier Affairs Manager.
“Instead we are contributing to the discussion and debate around internet filtering in another way, by engaging our customers to find out what they want and how they feel about the Government’s ISP Filtering policy.”
The survey goes on to say..
“When asked whether they agree that it is reasonable for consumers to experience “innocent” websites being blocked from viewing in order to facilitate mandatory ISP level filtering, more than 87% of Netspace’s customers disagree.”

The results are very clear: Australia does not want a mandatory Internet filter. The question is how many times does the Government need to hear it?

These figures are not in the least bit surprising.
Your question: “how many times does the Government need to hear it?”.
After all the backlash on this filtering scheme and the fact other supposedly more repressive countries are pointing at AU and saying “I’m glad it isn’t that bad here” I have no doubt that every single person in Australia screaming in their faces would not change Rudd and Conroy’s minds about this plan.
It is a sad state of affairs when the people hired by the country are not doing what their employers are asking of them. In fact it’s worse than them just not doing what Australians are asking.. they are ignoring what is being said and keep up the lies about who does or doesn’t want this.
If you were an employer to someone who did this, they would have had their 3 warnings and been out of here months ago.
Worst part about this is, the information about the filters is only really available online. So once they are in place and the government decides it wants to restrict “its citizens/sheeple” even further they can just block any web content which might allow people to share and express their concerns about the new government regulations.
V for Vendetta was close to the truth, they just got the wrong country.
