What I don't understand is, if they have a list of child porn sites why don't they actually take them offline? Why is blocking access the solution they suggest? Sure the sites are hosted overseas but I don't think there is a nation on earth they wouldn't take action if notified.

It's as stupid as banning green laser pointers instead of actually, you know, securing planes against green laser "attacks".So now pilots can be blinded at any moment but we need not worry because we banned green laser pointers. Great solution guys!

The creeping grasp of totalitarianism is well and truly upon us. The agendas of the old Howard government are now the "new labour". The extreme views and hard-line policies of Ruddock and Andrews are now the mainstream policies of this increasingly out-of-control government. We had to chuck out one bunch of ultra right extremists, looks like the new bunch needs to go too.... or as Gerry comments here, is it time to really acknowledge that this country is now a basket case, and its demise is inevitable?

@David Jackmanson
You're right I'm ignorant of what normally goes on and am sickened to think that this is the norm. If that is the case, starting today, I no longer consider Australia home and start look for a new one. I've had enough of the absolute lack of logic and reason that I see every day, in political decisions, news and the Australian media. It all makes me sick. Maybe smart people just aren't meant to live in this country.

...Unless it's possible to successfully fight this... is it? Because it's not just this filtering scheme that's broken, it's the system or society that allows it to get this far.
