Dear god is this man having a joke with all of parliment!? Even they can see that he’s bullshiting his way through these questions and has no actual legitimate answers for any of these?

  2. Dan says:

I don’t think they really care about the results of the trial. They will push it regardless.

  3. Adam D says:

This guy is a total ass.

He is so stupid… You CANT censor the internet… there is too much internet, and it is growing EXPONENTIALLY…

And he thinks he can do it… I give him a week before the plug is pulled.

  4. Ash says:

What a charmer. I love the way he surmises the failed uptake of the old filter is justification to force it on everyone.

  5. joshnunn says:

This is the single most painful fact of the cleanfeed policy—that it’s being implemented by a man who accepts no criticism, takes no guidance and ignores any pertinent question as to its details.

In other hands the filter might succeed or fail on its merits (or lack thereof). In Conroy’s hands it has become a monstrous black cloud hovering over our freedoms of communication. His lack of communication and arrogant dismissal of his opponents has shown him to be completely unqualified for such an important position.

  6. Jim Stewart says:

Man they make me angry. To the lay person they probably seem reasonable. The other side of the house is just as bad! Conroy is full of it! They are talking absolute nonsense. Thanks for posting this Ben.

  7. Colin Jacobs says:

What happens when a confused an ill-conceived policy meets measured opposition and technical reality? Apparently, the answer is we get glibness and spin from Conroy, and our tax dollars continue to be wasted. The trial is a confused affair, with no clear policy objective or benchmarks for success or failure.

In this case, the system ain’t working, and Conroy looks to be the bug in the system.

  8. Jim Stewart says:

Let’s not lose sight of the fact this is being done to garner support in the senate. Maybe we should be targeting these guys Xenaphon, Fielding et al

  9. Andrew says:

I totally agree, that no matter what the results of the trial are, it will be pushed through, however, in the Senate the Liberals/Nationals, and the Greens are opposed (and are the majority). The only probable way is for a joint sitting.

But not giving reasonable answers will ultimately bring the downfall of both the government, and Conroy himself.

  10. Danny says:

What an idiot this Conroy is, to screw Australians & throw their hard earned Taxpayers money down the drain!

Obviously he has something to hide & simply cannot be blindly trusted!!…

  11. websinthe says:

I agree, the government will push the filter regardless of the results.

I wonder when they’ll fire Conroy for extreme incompetence.

  12. I’ve watched/listened to Question Time for years and I’ve seen Ministers fail to answer questions all the time. When Conroy first started failing to answer questions I was all “Well yeah, that’s what he *does*. He’s a *politician*.”

But it seems that a lot of people aren’t as jaded as me about this, and expect more from politicians, which is a good thing. Can I ask if other people here make a habit of watching Parliament, or if this is the first time they’ve paid attention?

  13. Heidi says:

Testing is voluntary! Bring on all the biased testers and crackpots !! How can he then say this is evidence based? How is this a proper scientific trial.

  14. joshnunn says:

David, I started paying attention leading up to the last election, as the previous Govt made me angry with all the dodging and weaving they did. So I was hoping for better from this government. Conroy is disappointing me. Seems pointless to ask questions at all if they never get answered.

  15. This is utter bollocks from Conroy. A dud response to a dud policy. So reminiscent of Kevin Andrews and Phillip Ruddock. Very disappointing.

  16. Patrick Speer says:

“…2% are still using it…” Maybe cause only 2% want it… This guy is a total idiot

  17. Gerry says:

    @David Jackmanson
You’re right I’m ignorant of what normally goes on and am sickened to think that this is the norm. If that is the case, starting today, I no longer consider Australia home and start look for a new one. I’ve had enough of the absolute lack of logic and reason that I see every day, in political decisions, news and the Australian media. It all makes me sick. Maybe smart people just aren’t meant to live in this country.

…Unless it’s possible to successfully fight this… is it? Because it’s not just this filtering scheme that’s broken, it’s the system or society that allows it to get this far.

  18. evanism says:

The creeping grasp of totalitarianism is well and truly upon us. The agendas of the old Howard government are now the “new labour”. The extreme views and hard-line policies of Ruddock and Andrews are now the mainstream policies of this increasingly out-of-control government. We had to chuck out one bunch of ultra right extremists, looks like the new bunch needs to go too…. or as Gerry comments here, is it time to really acknowledge that this country is now a basket case, and its demise is inevitable?

  19. Tik says:

What I don’t understand is, if they have a list of child porn sites why don’t they actually take them offline? Why is blocking access the solution they suggest? Sure the sites are hosted overseas but I don’t think there is a nation on earth they wouldn’t take action if notified.

It’s as stupid as banning green laser pointers instead of actually, you know, securing planes against green laser “attacks”.So now pilots can be blinded at any moment but we need not worry because we banned green laser pointers. Great solution guys!
