Twingr is Microblogging Small Fish

3

SO when I heard about Twingr, a site providing users the ability to create their own microblogging community, I rushed over to see what was happening. I was disappointed.

The video tour on the homepage is a nice touch, but pretty standard on many start-ups and doesn’t actually do any convincing as to why I should get on board.

I do suppose that the idea of your own little network is a good one, but Yammer is doing that for workplaces already. Maybe Twingr is attempting to grab the private sector before Yammer creates a sister site. Having a private account on Twitter even gets rid of the exposure I assume people want when considering Twingr.

Twingr could be the equivalent of Ning, the create-your-own-social-network provider, but at the moment Twitter is growing at rates faster than your brother’s beefed up Holden. Does this mean that users will one day go elsewhere once they seek something new? Of course! Just like MySpace was once the HTML horror social network of teens everywhere, Facebook took over once it opened its doors to those without university e-mail addresses who wanted a cleaner interface. Whether or not Twingr does this to Twitter is another matter depending on the movements of both.

Unless things pick up and they can convince users that they can do what Twitter cannot, Twingr will probably fizzle away into mediocrity. Studying what Twitter users complain about will be a great strategy for Twingr providing they deliver on offering alternate and interesting add-ons to microblogging. Until then I’ll stay happy with my Twitter account.

Ever since I came onto Twitter, I’ve worried about it’s eventual demise. Still, I have faith. I have faith.

Ya gotta have faith – faith – faith.
