Exetel – Does The Dust Ever Settle?

INTERNET Service Provider Exetel delivered an email to customers on Friday outlining a new $3 administration charge to all accounts following a change in the way customers are shaped earlier this month.

Currently users of the budget ISP were already paying the standard $1.10 a month charge when using a Credit Card, now Exetel have decided to increase this fee with a standard administration charge of $3.00 applying to all accounts.

In the email going out to customers on the 7th, Exetel outlines…

“This email is to give the contractually required 21 days notice(today being 7/11/2008) that from the 1/12/2008 (in 23 days time) Exetel will be increasing this ‘account administration fee’, on all accounts irrespective of whether they are paid by direct debit or by credit card, to $3.00 per customer account each month.”

November 3rd also saw changes in the way Exetel shapes their customers accounts, making it mandatory for all customers that “abuse” their shaping system by using more than 2 Gigabytes, to pay $6 a Gigabyte.

“…if you have selected the ’shaped’ option it is valid for a further 2 gigabytes of downloads for the remainder of the calendar month. Once you download more than 2 gigabytes you will then be charged $6.00 per gigabyte or part gigabyte in either period”

To get an idea of Exetel as a company you just need to check out Whirlpool or even their own company forum to see how they treat their customers.

When a customer starts to annoy them, they just terminate their account.

According to Wikipedia….

Exetel employs 36 people and its revenue in the 2007-08 financial year was projected to be a little over AUD $45,000,00.
